A cool and windy Saturday finally brought the two of us back down to Egerton Street and the CN London Yard on the Dundas Sub. It was a chance for Martin meet up with two railfans that are also his age, King_Valor1 - / @king_valor1 - from Sarnia and CSX 5367 Railfan Productions - / @mile290productions3 - from Woodstock for a few very socially distanced hours together at the tracks. Just the chance to let him meet some others his age in person was worth the trip alone; but that didn't mean that we weren't happy to catch three great trains in those couple of hours. I hope that you'll give their channels a try. First up was an eastbound freight that was pulling into the yard to get its 94 cars shunted and sorted. I had set myself up to the south of the train, safely on the sidewalk between the various crossings to film with my tripod and tablet. What I didn't account for was the strong wind (you can see the yard's windsock stretched right out through most of the video). It's a good thing I had my phone ready to go. You'll see some editing and a difference in the video quality after the first few frames of the train's arrival. That's because I just caught my tripod in time as it tipped in the wind and quickly decided that I was better to film this with my phone firmly in my hand. Anyway... that was a long-winded way of saying that conditions weren't ideal, despite the beautiful, bright day. The video opens with a blast of the locomotive's horn to signal that the train was about to cross the street. As he crept by, the engineer was also kind enough to give me a quick wave. He was running a four-locomotive lashup of GE and EMD power, with each of the locomotives being a different model. In one shot, we caught a Dash-9, an SD75I, an ES44DC and a Dash-8. The Dash-8 is an old ATSF Warbonnet that was bought and repainted by CN a few years ago. Even though it was less than one hundred cars long, the train took over 12 minutes to creep by us. I did a bit of editing here to skip some of the repetitive lines of tanker cars and empty flatbeds that are set up to carry vehicle chassis. Things got very busy after that. After the main track was cleared, we were treated to a pair of trains that you'll just have to wait for in the next video. Stay tuned... CN XXX (eastbound) CN #2582 - GE C44-9W CN #5690 - EMD SD75I CN #2288 - GE ES44DC CN #2168 - GE C40-8W (nee: ATSF Warbonnet #813, ex-BNSF #813) We hope that you enjoy this video.
