Dan Martinusen presents his talk “Practical Considerations for Medical Cannabis Administration and Dosing,” as part of BC Kidney Days. He talks about the history of cannabis as a medicine, cannabis use disorder and other key considerations of cannabis treatment. He notes that THC can be used to decrease pain, increase sleep, decrease nausea, increase hunger, and increase euphoria, but can involve impairment. CBD, on the other hand, is used to treat epilepsy in children, for chronic pain, and anxiety. He discusses drug interactions, and when cannabis should not be taken (e.g., while pregnant or breastfeeding, if there’s a family history of psychosis, etc). Next, he discusses insurance coverage of medical cannabis in Canada. He talks about the time for the effects to begin depending on different methods of delivery (e.g., vaping, ingesting, etc.).
