A jagged, spiraling peak, with low-lying fog seeping through cracks and crevices. A lake, hidden in the mountaintop, flanked by evergreen trees. A glamorous transition of afternoon's last light into tomorrow's dawn, contrasted against midnight's rising embrace. These are just a few examples of the dramatic imagery that Richard Min sought to capture in these six postludes. Taking inspiration from the successes of previous iterations and the Romantic writers of centuries past, the sweeping beauty of nature is a central theme as each pieces explores the hawk's sanctuary, the wind's floor, the comfort of the valley's warmth, and the ever-shining constellation's path. May nature's powerful caress champion over these six beautiful pieces to complete 2021's music. 00:00 — "光 - 碎空 (Shattered Sky)" imagines a sky free-falling down to the earth. A pronounced bass reverberates as the high melody transitions through modulating tones and repeated notes, giving the impression of an actual shattered sky and maintaining a mood of imminent danger. 03:36 — "光 - 春耀 (Spring Shine)" is very much the piece that inspired this collection. A joyous hark heralds the season of new beginnings, cascading a repeated theme through trills and virtuous melodies. Through three distinct sections, "Spring Shine" explores the blooms and blossoms of new life as winter's blanket subsides into a land of viridescent green. 06:53 — "光 - 凌晨 (Dawn)" connects deeply to the essence of nature. Picturing a secluded pond on the crest of a fog-shrouded hill, the undulating notes closely resemble the stylistic manner in which "7 Improvisations" was crafted; in combination with the call of a morning lark and a divine major climax, "Dawn" perfectly captures the genesis of the day. 9:44 — "光 - 日出 (Sunrise)" continues the renaissance that the previous pieces established. Describing heaven's jewel's journey across the sky, this piece features rapidly arpeggiating chords sweeping across the keyboard before modulating into a repetition of the main stepped theme. 12:33 — "光 - 午阳 (Noon Gleam)" marks the return to the classical styles of previous iterations. Opening with a waterfalling motif before grading into colourful chords, previous listeners may recognize influences from "Faraway Storm" and even "Moonpool". Backdropped against a panoramic juxtaposition between nature's mountains and mankind's city, "Noon Gleam" triumphantly concludes with a boundless timelapse from the afternoon to night. 16:10 — "光 - 雾峰 (Misty Peak)" is, fittingly, the twin piece of "🌬️ (Lucid Summit of Austerity)" from the previous iteration. Both pieces explore the magical spirit of mountains, and both serve as the spectacular conclusion of their respective videos. With the alpine peaks cloaked in a veil of mist, an atmosphere of mystery persists through the hauntingly echoic theme before a soul-stirring end melody closes the video. As is traditional, these six postludes are here for you to enjoy. May they serve as a light through these frigid months and foreshadow the warmth of the spring to come. ~~~ Attributions: Virtually all music in this video is the original, improvised work of Richard Min.
