The HMCS Margaret Brooke arriving in Toronto on October 16, 2025, as part of the Royal Canadian Navy's Great Lakes Tour. The HMCS Margaret Brooke is the second ship in the Royal Canadian Navy's Harry DeWolf class of offshore patrol vessels. She was built at Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax and commissioned by the Royal Canadian Navy in 2022. This class of ships is designed for patrol and support within Canada's Arctic Regions. She has a total length of 103.6 m, a beam of 19.0 m and a displacement of 6600 metric tonnes. She was featured in the CBC documentary "Journey beyond the Antarctic Circle". The HMCS Margaret Brooke is named after Margaret Brooke, who was a nursing sister in the Royal Canadian Navy. In October 1942, while taking the ferry SS Caribou between St. Johns NL and Sydney NS, the SS Caribou was torpedoed by a German submarine. During the sinking, she tried to save a fellow nursing sister, albeit unsuccessfully, while fighting for her own survival. Margaret Brooke was rescued and was named as a member of the Order of the British Empire for her efforts. She lived to the age of 100 and passed away in 2016.
