Good Mornin It’s lovely and sunny, although a bit cold today. Today’s adventure in all honesty, I had never heard of before……. Spectacular Jousting at Caerlaverock Castle, I’m so glad I stumbled across it online while scoping out some areas of interest for the future. Even more to my surprise, they travel round Scotland attending different events and this specific experience attends yearly at Traquair, Linlithgow Castle and here at Caerlaverock Castle. Spectacular Jousting just blew us away and even though our kids are more teens, they loved it, this event is made up of so many passionate and talented individuals from all over, and I want to specifically mention and say Thank you to @BritanniaXIV @MedievalRealm It was an absolutely fantastic day, more than we could have asked for, and for around £25 for a family it’s a bargain, we even got a nosey round the Castle itself. Completed in the 1270’s and occupied by Herbert Maxwell, Caerlaverock is a very unique Castle in Scotland as it is triangular in shape, and it originally was slightly further south although it’s believed it was moved due to flooding with high tides. The “relocated” Castle had two moats the inner moat that we see today and an outer moat which is best observed from a Birds Eye perspective, which gave the castle an extra barrier of protection through its troubled history. Due to the castle’s close proximity to England it saw more than it’s fair share of trouble over the years, even after the Union of Crowns in 1603, the promise of peace was short lived and in 1640 an Army of Covenanters attacked Caerlaverock and after 13 weeks the castle fell. Pretty much untouched even since. How we see the castle today is very similar to the summer of 1640, as very little repairs have been carried out. Today Historic Scotland are maintaining this spectacular structure so that future generations can marvel at its glory, just like we get to……… See you all again soon and Happy Travels 🖤 historicenvironment.scot caerlaverock.com caerlaverock.org.uk reenactment.scot Guitar1 Audionautix.com creative command.org/licensedby/4.0/legalcode
