(7 Sep 2017) 'DAYS OF OUR LIVES' ACTORS LOOK BACK ON SOAP'S WILDEST STORYLINES Longtime soap opera star Kristian Alfonso has seen some crazy storylines on "Days of Our Lives," since she joined the show in 1983. But the actress says the one involving her character's sleeping pill antics outdoes them all. "'Nighttime Hope' when she was taking the sleeping pills, brokenhearted, took the sleeping pills and they affected her greatly and she'd wake up and do things in the middle of the night not realizing what she was doing," Alfonso recalls. "It was crazy. It was insane!" Co-star Billy Flynn, who joined the cast in 2017, pointed to a famous "Days of Our Lives" supernatural plot. "I guess the ones I know about would be that one with Marlena being possessed. I feel like was probably a big one," said Flynn. Along with playing Hope Brady on the soap, Alfonso pulled double duty as art thief Princess Gina Von Amberg. "The Princess Gina storyline. I have to say it was crazy fun. I've never worked so hard in my life, but it was a lot of fun just trying to keep all the different characters straight - who was saying what because I was playing them opposite one another as well." Alfonso recalled one plotline where her character had a chip implanted - but decided that scenario sounds less outlandish in today's times. "Now that I think of it, that was such a crazy insane storyline, but with the way things are going in the world these days, the chip is not sounding so crazy anymore!" said Alfonso. "We were ahead of our time." Flynn, whose first job was on "Days," said it has felt like a masters class in acting. "Because you're thrown into an environment where you have to learn sometimes eight scripts a week, up to 50 something pages a day. But you get to work with people who are super talented and have been doing it for a long time. You have every kind of level of actor there and you know you learn from the best," he said. Alfonso, who has also worked in primetime and film, says daytime TV is the toughest gig in town. "Because of the amount of material, the pressures that are put on you. You don't get 100 takes, you don't get a master and a close-up and a three-quarter and then over the shoulder. You get one shot." "Days of Our Lives" is NBC's longest running soap opera. It premiered in 1965.
