The lost pie review from Easter 2025: Renee and i debate what a cheese and bacon pie is. Rylstone Bakery pie review!!! Welcome back to Renee and Brad’s Food Reviews! This episode comes straight out of the lost archive from Easter 2025, and today we’re stopping in at the legendary Rylstone Bakery to try a couple of classic Aussie pies. What starts as a simple pie review quickly turns into a debate about one very important question… what actually makes a good cheese and bacon pie? I went for the cheese and bacon pie, a staple of bakeries all across Australia. On the surface it looked promising with cheese baked on top of the crust, but once i cracked it open something was missing… there was no cheese inside the pie itself. For me, that’s a big deal because in my opinion a proper cheese and bacon pie needs cheese through the filling, not just melted on top as decoration. This leads to a bit of a discussion about what really counts as a proper cheese and bacon pie. Meanwhile, Renee decides to try the curry chicken and vegetable pie. At first bite it had plenty of flavour and a nice filling, but the curry level was turned up pretty high. Renee felt the curry almost overpowered the rest of the ingredients, making it a little too intense for her liking. Some people might love that strong curry kick, but for Renee it tipped slightly past the sweet spot. Even after this the pies still went alright, it was still a fun stop and a great example of the kind of honest reviews we like to do on the channel. Sometimes you find absolute gems, sometimes you find pies that are just okay, and sometimes you end up debating pie philosophy in the middle of a small country town. So the big question we want to throw out to you is this: 👉 Should a cheese and bacon pie have cheese inside the filling, or is cheese on top enough?
