the topic of grief has been on my mind for as long as i can remember. i've had an interesting relationship with grief...i avoided it by running away several times. only for it to show up on my doorstep again and again. i realized that intellectualizing our feelings is not enough; in fact, that is only scratching the surface. talking about our feelings is NOT the same as feeling our feelings in our body. learning how to sit with grief can be really uncomfortable because it's heavy. however, unprocessed grief will manifest into mental and physical diseases. i don't like how underdiscussed this topic is. processing grief is vital to our lives, yet it is not taught to us in school or at work. everyone goes through grief in their life, but capitalism is designed to not give us time or space to process it. through my own healing journey, i've learned how to sit with my grief a little bit more. yet last year, i still numbed myself because of how heavy my grief was. i've also seen how unprocessed grief can take over people's lives. i think that the current generation of young kids is going to be feeling the effects of unprocessed grief from previous generations as well. processing grief is not only needed on an individual level but on a collective level. i think this looks different for everyone as well. some people process their grief through art, storytelling, writing, dancing, or simply feeling it in their bodies and letting it run through, no matter how heavy it is. this is not a one-and-done thing either, it is a lifelong habit. grief will come up in cycles, the question is, are we ready to meet it once it comes to the surface? lastly, i think that grief can only exist because of love. denying grief is also denying love that is demanding to be felt so i hope this message can reach the people who need to hear it. more of my thoughts here: https://jennydieng.substack.com/ #grief #feelings #emotionalintelligence #healing
