A 53 year-old tradition that began small in 1972 with Pilot Sid Cutter & only 13 balloons in a mall parking lot. It quickly grew in popularity, & by the year 2000, it hosted a record 1019 balloons! Today, the City of Albuquerque continues to host the festival at Balloon Fiesta Park, with 360 sprawling acres, encompassing the Anderson-Abruzzo Balloon Museum, Sid Cutter Pilots’ Pavillon, Golf & Event Center, launch field, restrooms, & parking. A week long celebration featuring balloons & pilots from all over the world! Another fun fact: One of the quickest ways to offend a local is to call it “Balloon Festival” instead of “Balloon Fiesta.” It’s ALWAYS “fiesta!” ℹ️ For a successful experience at the Balloon Fiesta, it’s recommended that guests try to attend at least 3 days worth of events minimum, as weather can be unpredictable, & you’ll want to have the best chance of actually seeing balloons launch during your visit. Also, for specialized tickets & accommodations in general, it’s recommended you book months or even a year in advance so you don’t miss out! Shuttle service is also recommended, as parking can quickly become limited.
