Woakwine Cutting was constructed by Mr Murray McCourt in 1957 in order to drain a large swamp on his property. The work was undertaken by 2 men, and was completed in under 3 years with the aid of a caterpillar d7 tractor, a 7 ton drain ripper, scraper and explosives. The cutting is 1 km in length, 30 metres at its deepest point, 3 metres width at the bottom, and entailed the removal of 276,000 cubic metres of material.https://hatchaholiday.com/beachport-s... Said to be Australias biggest one-man engineering feat, the cutting was excavated to drain land behind the Woakwine Range, which is located approximately 12kms from Beachport. A parking bay and viewing platform is provided and the machines used to dig the cutting are on display. Free entry.
