Troops in the reserves (unless mobilized for wartime service), colonial forces, irregular units such as civil defense groups, frontier guards, gendarmerie, and other quasi-military organizations are excluded from this assessment. I categorized (colored) countries into three main groups, each of which currently holds a significant presence in the list, especially during recent years: Muslim countries, Southeast Asian countries, and the remaining nations worldwide.
