Walking tour through Algiers Point (Old Algiers) on the West Bank in New Orleans, Louisiana. Algiers Point is located on the opposite side of the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. It is a historic neighborhood that is part of the larger suburb of New Orleans called Algiers. The architectural styles of the properties in Algiers Point resemble that which you find in other neighborhoods in New Orleans, such as: Uptown, Irish Channel, Mid-City, Marigny, and Bywater. Algiers Point is located on what is called the ‘Crescent’ on the Mississippi River. New Orleans is nicknamed the Crescent City due to a curve in the Mississippi River that occurs between the French Quarter and Algiers Point. There is a passenger ferry that docks next to the Audubon Aquarium in the French Quarter, and crosses the River to the dock at Algiers Point.
