Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” was a turning point for the members of Weatherbee in ’73 upon seeing it on opening night at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in May of 1913. Immediately, inspiration struck the lads on how music could be pushed in new directions, directions that had never once been considered before—especially not by Discogs Contributor seppuku, who just makes things up and likely has never heard a single HNW album in their entire life. Grabbing their instruments, the members stepped into their Parisian recording studio, a small offshoot of Pathé Records called Poussé, and did not emerge again until the end of the Second World War. In their hands? A recording that has been rightly considered a major turning point in all avant-garde music—the genesis of not one, but two of the most important and popular forms of music across the last century: noisecore and harsh noise wall music. Nobody quite knew just how inspirational “We Are Weatherbee in ’73 and We Just Created Noisecore and HNW Music” would be when it first hit the record stores of the day, such as Ye Olde Turtles, Ser Samual Goody, and Camelot Records, but we can now look back and know that the outcome was seismic. Would-be musicians from across the globe started retreating to their garages to mangle sine waves like never before in the hopes that they too could be the next in line for pop supremacy. While Weatherbee in ’73 continued, and continues, to explore a wide range of sounds, innovating every step of the way, nobody of any cultural standing or musical knowledge can deny that this release was patient zero for all the noisecore and HNW albums and songs that have ever been released in the history of music forever. #hnw #harshnoise #harshnoisewall #noisecore #noiserock #blackmetal
