El Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter (Parque Natural del Montgrí, las Islas Medes y el Bajo Ter) se creó en 2010 con el objetivo de unificar las normativas que regían estos tres espacios por separado, que dotan el paisaje litoral catalán de una singularidad única. Engloba el macizo montañoso del Montgrí, el archipiélago de las islas Medes con su fondo marino de preciado valor ecológico, y los humedales que forma el río Ter al desembocar en la bahía de Pals. El macizo del Montgrí es la gran formación calcárea que hace de frontera natural entre el Baix y L'Alt Empordà. Tiene una extensión de 2.300 hectáreas y está formado por tres montañas, todas ligeramente superiores a los trescientos metros de altura. El archipiélago de las islas Medes, situado aproximadamente a un kilómetro de la costa de L'Estartit, es la única reserva marina del país y comprende 21,5 hectáreas terrestres y 511 hectáreas marinas.
