Do you know anything about rut season for deer? According to one website, “Rut is a term used to describe the behavior of deer during the breeding season when males pursue females… . The rut can range from several months in southern states like Florida to a short window of time in the fall in the Northeast.”1 If you haven’t noticed, it is rut season now. In the past week and a half, several of our company drivers have hit deer. This danger led me to write a text message to each of our drivers. I urged them to be aware of the danger and to drive slower at night because of the possibility of hitting a deer. The warning was well received, and we have not had any more deer hits thus far. In our passage today, we will be looking at a warning given by the apostle Paul in the last chapter of his letter to the church in Rome. Like my warning to company drivers, he pointed out a danger that was affecting the early Christians. Certain devious people were attempting to deceive unsuspecting believers, and he wanted them to be ready. In our passage, we will see how Paul prepared his Christian brothers to recognize and avoid these false teachers.
