Waiting for them were just a few hundred Knights of St. John, a handful of Maltese villagers, and their faith. What followed was a brutal four-month siege that would decide the fate of the Mediterranean. Cannons roared, walls crumbled, and entire fortresses were reduced to ash — yet the defenders refused to kneel.
