Fun, Scenic, Almost Original Otis Traction Elevators at The Hotel Knoxville, Knoxville, TN

Filmed June 2019. On my way back home from Kentucky, I stopped by in Knoxville to have lunch and I filmed some elevators. I'm sure if you guys have watched Dieselducy lately or 22408aaron, you might recognize these!!! ;) This place used to be a Marriott and is supposedly being renovated into a Delta Hotel, but it took a long time for The project to start, and eventually, the place lost it's franchise. It is still being redone and should be a Delta by Marriott soon, but it did lose it's franchise when it was supposed to stay a Marriott till renovations are complete. And, it's pretty obvious why the place lost it's franchise. With hallways that scream the 60s/70s as well as chipped and peeling paint, wallpaper, holes in the ceiling, this place is in pretty poor shape and badly needs to be renovated, which it is currently being done thankfully; all of the carpet was torn out in the lobby.... However, Even though this hotel is rundown and hilariously outdated, the elevators are AMAZING!!! As Aaron said, these aren't no Marriott Marquis elevators, however the elevators are indeed still a lot of fun!!!! The cabs are actually pretty long with a little hallway where the COPs and phones are, and even though unfortunately ADAMS got their paws on the fixtures, likely for ADA reasons, the motors and controllers, Old Otis lanterns and chimes as well as the Old Otis Humming Door Operators all remain original from 1971, and as a result, they still run like Old Otises at heart and are an absolute BLAST to ride!!!! Plus, they are also pretty smooth, and the architecture of the hotel is VERY UNIQUE with how the place was designed as a Triangular Prism with a Atrium, and the 2 elevator bank towers sticking out on the side, and as a result, you get AMAZING views from the elevators of BOTH the really cool 60s/70s style atrium and Downtown Knoxville!!!! Even though the elevators were modded in the 90s, they are still a TON of fun, offer awesome views and have a lot of their original character!!!! Unfortunately, I could only ride the North Bank of Elevators here as the South Elevators are currently being modded AGAIN as part of the renovation by a Generic Company with Innovation Prestige fixtures. While the COPs and cabs on the elevators I did ride were a bit dilapidated and worn, they otherwise ran just fine and they weren't in deplorable shape by any means and I could've seen them just putting new fixtures and cabs in, but otherwise keeping the original equipment and chimes as these work just fine. But, it is what it is. Only the service car on the South Bank was running, the rest were all blocked off for modernization and construction in the elevator lobbies. Thankfully I at least got to ride the North Elevators here before the upcoming 2nd modernization, and even though the Service Elevator on the North Side was broken, at least Aaron has a video of it from 2014:    • Scary Otis Traction Service Elevator - The...   It has a slap on mod too, but still has it's original indicator and a Custom Series 1 COP instead. That all being said, enjoy the video of these AMAZING, and SUPER FUN Scenic Otises with many of their original character and AMAZING VIEWS that are soon to be modded the 2nd time at this Uniquely designed, albeit run down and dilapidated, but soon to be renovated hotel!!! Installed: 1971 (Otis Touch Sensitive) Modernized: Circa 1990s (Unknown Company with ACME indicators and ADAMS COPs and call stations. Old Otis Lanterns, Motors, Controllers, Door Operators and Shaft Equipment all remained as is from installation) (Seen in video) Soon to be modernized AGAIN, this time with new controllers and all new equipment in 2019-2020!!!!
