There is a condition called as gluteal abscess and perianal abscess. There are 2 conditions infective in origin and abscess means collection of pus in a location. Gluteal means around the gluteal region, around the buttock region. Gluteal abscess is usually followed with injections. So we call that as a n injection abscess also because that is the area we tend to inject the patients for intramuscular injections. If there is some unsterile method of injection of some medical material, into a muscle, then an injection abscess or a gluteal abscess can form. At the same time, the medicine that is given, though it I s sterile, it may induce some amount of muscle necrosis or tissue necrosis and cause a small infective focus called as the gluteal abscess. Sometimes a preexisting condition can cause a gluteal abscess, which could have appeared in any part of the body. Whereas a perianal abscess, as the name very clearly describes ”anal” is anal region. “Peri” is around that. This is usually secondary to some infection of the anal gland. Anal gland which is otherwise normally present in any oral individual for serous or mucus material, which will not hurt the anal canal when the feces is getting emptied. That will be normally functioning, in cases that gets infected and infection does not subside with simple medical management then that gets converted into perianal abscess. Both gluteal abscess and perianal abscess needs to be managed surgically most of the times.
