I shot this on my visit to FC Barcelona’s academy shortly before the pandemic hit. The clip is short but I thought it was interesting so I decided to upload. These players are u10 but I was actually observing a u8 group do a possession exercise (to date, my most popular video: • FC Barcelona La Masia u8 (Escola) possessi... ) but there was a break in the u8 session so I panned over to this exercise. It is important to point out that these players play for the Escola which is a level below the actual academy. These players are being considered for the academy. DESCRIPTION: This is basically a 1v1+1 possession exercise with a dribbling/defending component. The grid is about 10 yards wide by 30 yards long. There is a central playing area (20 x 30 yds, divided in half by 2 yellow cones) and 2 ‘endzones’ 10 yards wide and 5 yards deep. In each half of the central playing area, there is one attacker and one defender. These players cannot move out of their respective areas. The neutral player (in yellow) can move freely between the two central areas to support the player in possession. The objective is for the attacking player in each half to receive the ball from either his teammate or the neutral player and beat his defender by dribbling into the endzone. The neutral player, in yellow supports the attackers. I didn’t watch the exercise for very long so I'm not sure if the neutral player could dribble into the endzone for a point but my guess is the answer is no.
