Full review and standardized testing of the HO scale F40PH-2D made by Rapido Trains Inc. Locomotive weight: 476 grams / 16.79 oz Drawbar Pull: 75 grams / 2.65 oz Drawbar Push: 75 grams / 2.65 oz This model was announced in February 2014 and delivered in December 2014 in 10 road numbers and one unnumbered in both the as delivered paint and "Canada" paint scheme. The models are available in DC/Silent or DC/DCC with ESU Loksound. MSRP: DC/Silent - $250.00 DC/DCC/ESU Loksound - $350.00 Detail - Very good. Lot's of road specific detail and very accurate to the prototype. Extra baggy of parts that were added on after delivery in case you want to modernize it. Hand brake chain hanging off the rear truck, full cab interior and lot's of underbody detail for the discerning modeller who runs trains upside down 9.5/10 Operation/Drive train - Very very slow crawl speed, nice smooth, quiet operation. I have put quite a few miles on mine and have come across no problems as of yet 9.5/10 Weight - Weighing in at 476 grams / 16.79 oz and being a shorter 4 axle locomotive this is a very decent wieght. Compared to other 4 axle locomotives on the market it can out pull an Athearn Genesis CN Geep by 20 grams which is substantial 9/10 Sound - Great sounding recordings in the ESU decoder. Prime mover is nice and throaty and the volume levels are set at a very acceptable level right out of the box. The prime mover is at a medium volume and the horn and bell are set louder which I really like and is also how I end up setting a lot of my Soundtraxx Tsunamis. 9/10 Lighting - Step lighting! Controllable red class lights! Number boards and head/ditch lights are all at a very realistic brightness and no light bleed. This is how it is done! 9.5/10 OVERALL SCORE: 9.3 / 10 Highest rating BArailsystem has ever awarded to a locomotive! All around great model and I think I can say confidently that there will never be a better model of a VIA Rail F40PH-2D made after this.
