Let’s go for a deeper dive into the history and historic images of the railway stations in the Barossa Valley, from Gawler to Angaston. The line from Gawler to Angaston was completed in 1911. It was extended from Nuriootpa to Truro in 1917 and Penrice Quarry in 1950. Things began to unravel in 1968 when passenger services were withdrawn. The last train from Angaston was in 2004, and the Barossa Valley hasn’t seen a train since the end of the stone train from Penrice in 2014. The stations featured in this video are Gawler – Willaston(North Gawler) – Sandy Creek – Lyndoch – Rowland Flat - Tanunda – Nuriootpa – Angaston, Stockwell, and Truro. More stopping places appeared and disappeared over the later years, like Wilambo, Plush’s Corner, Light Pass, Turrung, Nuraip, Bethany, Kabininge, Altona, Wilamba, Warpoo, Kalperri, and Kalbeeba, and more. They were simple stopping places on request and no traces remain. Thanks for watching! IMAGES: State Library of South Australia - https://collections.slsa.sa.gov.au/fi...
