Nagarjuna Sagar is located at a distance of approximately 165 km from Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana. A site to behold, Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is considered one of largest dams in Asia. Being the tallest masonry dam, Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is also the pride of our country, India. The mighty dam was completed in the year 1969 and is also one of the earliest projects built in post independence India for irrigation as well as hydro-electricity generation. Exclusively for the purpose of tourism, a lake has been developed behind the dam, which boasts of its status as the third largest man-made lake anywhere in the world. The beautiful and scenic water body adds beauty to this impressive structure which offers a breathtaking experience for tourists. The dam derives its name from a nearby hillock and island called Nagarjunakonda, where an ancient Buddhist Guru had once lived. Tourists are then taken to this famous and well-maintained museum here that houses ancient artifacts. The museum is well known for the range of articles and sculptures dating back to several centuries. Apart from the lake where regular boating facilities are provided, tourists then visit other attraction, such as Ethipothala waterfalls, close by. Ethipothala Falls is a 70-feet high cascade, situated on Chandravanka River, a tributary of the River Krishna. The waterfall is the place three streams such as Chandravanka Vagu, Nakkala Vagu and Tummala Vagu converge and is situated about 11 kilometers from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. Here one can explore the stunning beauty of this waterfall and the impressive flow of the streams. Overall, this trip offers a delightful experience of the massive dam, famous museum and breathtaking waterfalls.
