Each diver navigates out and back. Advanced Open Water Diver course - Underwater Navigation Dive Navigate without surfacing to a predetermined location and return to within 6 metres / 20 feet of the starting point using a compass and estimated distance measurement (kick cycles or time). This skill allows the diver to accurately navigate underwater out and back which is especially useful when navigating between two fixed points. Whilst briefing the skill Instruct student divers to: Achieve neutral buoyancy prior to starting the skill Keep the compass flat Keep arm at a 90-degree right angle with lubber line directly in center of body Set Bezel using heading Swim slowly keeping north direction between the two index markers. After 15 kick cycles the student counting kicks will notify the navigator Still facing the direction, you have travelled, the navigator turns the bezel 180 degrees Example: opposite of 330 degrees is 150 degrees Next the navigator turns their body 180 degrees Keeping the compass flat, the number of the compass bezel will remain the same Example: 180degrees Looking to learn more diving skills?
