Fireside: Moderating truth in digital social spaces

Author, journalist & product manager Anika Gupta speaks with Patrick Boehler (Gazetta) to unpack the relationship between moderators and fact-checking. In some organisations, moderators work alongside fact-checkers to mitigate misinformation and its harm. In others, they are the fact-checkers, brokering truth and meaning for their users or organisation. In many regions, those moderating (often in the role of brand community managers) carry increasing regulatory burden for managing any misinformation. What is the current state of play? What are the risks and where are the opportunities for moderators to positively impact the infodemic? This session took place at All Things in Moderation 2024.
