Carlo Severi: On Complex Picture-Writings (SCRIBO 3 Seminar no. 3)

"SCRIBO: Seminars on Scripts in Bologna" is a series of online events with Guest Speakers from all over the world, who talk about the invention of writing, the relationship between scripts and icons, and current progress in the understanding of undeciphered scripts. Its scope is enriched by contributions from fields such as archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, cognitive studies, and semiotics. The third edition of SCRIBO focuses on cognition and is entitled 'Writing and the Brain'. It is sponsored by the INSCRIBE (Invention of Scripts and their Beginnings) ERC Project (https://site.unibo.it/inscribe/en/) and organised by members of the Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies (FICLIT) and Department of Philosophy and Communications Studies (DFC) at the University of Bologna. The third seminar of the series is held by Carlo Severi (Laboratoire d’anthropologie sociale - Collège de France) with the talk "On complex Picture-Writing: Chimeras, Pictographs and Writings in the Native American Arts of Memory".
