Plain 2 Grow System V.3 Version 3 Passive Hydroponics NON-WICKING Super Update! Video 18 - Hey, Plain2GrowJim here! This video is about what I've done to improve the Plain 2 Grow System. I call this version 3, but it's probably more like version 5. After a lot of research and hands-on growing, I've come to the conclusion that passive hydroponics has a very important and useful place in the larger realm of hydroponics. Notice I used the phrase "passive hydroponics" and not "passive wick hydroponics." Version 3 NO LONGER uses a WICK! I am still using milk jugs because they are cheap, easily available and simple to modify. They are compact, moveable, and recyclable. They are available to nearly anyone. A low tech, low cost solution to feeding yourself, your family and possibly others. Yes, the jugs have some pretty big drawbacks: The reservoir holds only about a half-gallon of nutrient solution; the jug is hard to clean; the jug is hard to keep at a stable temperature. I've been able to work around these issues due to ingenuity (see my other 17 videos) and perserverence. Keep an eye on the nutrient levels, the EC and pH numbers, and the temperature and you can grow just about anything in a milk jug. I've grown 8 foot tall tomato plants in a milk jug. Expend some "elbow grease" and you'll have tasty food all year around! I'm also working on some sympathetic chemistry that seems to work very well with the General Hydroponics nutrients I use. Right now I call it "CleanGreen Formula X" in a very "tongue-in-cheek" snicker-ry tribute to Madison Avenue, marketers, and hucksters everywhere. CGFX is unique: It can disinfect the nutrient solution and green up and supplement-feed the plants. I've been using it for a few months on the various plants I've been growing with excellent results. Just look at the Alaska pea plant in this video! Alaska peas take 8-12 days to germinate and about 2 months to produce pods. Today is 1 month and 1 day from when I placed the seeds into the P2GS V.3 Version 3. The plant was visible in 2 days, produced blooms in 26 days, and showed pods in 29 days! It is over 2 1/2 feet tall! I'm using foliar feeding (I've discussed foliar feeding in previous videos) in conjunction with CGFX. I haven't seen anything in books or on the internet about this chemistry, and I'm relying on 30 year-old college chemistry that I passed with B-'s. Safety and efficacy are my concerns. I know the stuff works, I'm just not completely sure how it works. It has to be used quickly in a very specific order of use and can't be pre-mixed, so this is a do-it-yourself, non-commercial project to hopefully advance the hydroponic hobby, avocation, and vocation. Give me time to further experiment with CGFX and I'll put out a separate video. I'm also working on creating organic fertilizer using vermiculture, or "worm composting." I haven't had great success with it yet but I'm going to keep trying. My 11 year-old homeschooled son and I are co-writing a video about the importance of water and why we should conserve it. I'm excited about the video! I really appreciate you and your subscription. I enjoy reading the comments and I appreciate positive feedback. This may become a business in the future but right now I'm enjoying it as a hobby and avocation. I'm keeping my Plain2Grow YouTube channel advertising-free to make your viewing a pleasant event in this chaotic world. Thanks again.
