The Phaistos Disc was discovered at the archaeological site of Phaistos on Crete, Greece in 1908. The disc is covered with impressions that are most definitely characters for letters or syllables. The disc remains untranslated. The Phaistos Disc is in the context of the Middle Bronze Age, about 1600 BC. The civilization is the Minoan culture, which was centered on Crete. The Phaistos Disc is in a larger language archaeological context. Egyptian hieroglyphs are to the southeast, Sumerian cuneiform is to the East, the Minoans themselves developed Linear A, the Mycenaeans developed Linear B, and the Phoenicians at Byblos would develop the alphabet used today. Some think the artifact represents a song or a prayer, because some "words" or "phrases" are repeated. A short film by Jeffrey Meyer music credit: Earth Appears by Brian Bolger
