If you've ordered a used shamisen from an auction site, or inherited an antique shamisen from a relative, there's a good chance the itomaki might slip easily. This is simply due to the fact that the itomaki peg naturally wears down over time. Even a set of brand new, tight fitting itomaki will often become wobbly after 10 to 20 years. Does this mean your shamisen is ruined? Of course not! All you need is some sandpaper and a small block (or a fine file), and you can restore the itomaki's tightness in the comfort of your home! Check out the entire DIY process in this in-depth video! Please note, the repair process does require care and attention, because sanding too much results in the itomaki not being able to hold tension. However, if this happens, not all is lost. The itomaki is a very easy part for any luthier to make. So if you end up sanding too much, bring it to a local instrument (or even furniture) maker and see if they will take on a special project! 🙂 Also, if you are worried about trying to fix wobbly itomaki yourself, please contact me for professional repair! - https://bachido.com/store/repair-sham...
