Just sat down at the piano to play A Night in Tunisia… and accidentally discovered something that made me stop and laugh at myself. Just a real-time moment of realising that a section I’ve played for years suddenly made sense in a completely different way — hearing it simply as a V–I with a tritone substitution. This is what learning jazz actually feels like. Not perfectly structured. Not always intellectual. Sometimes it’s just stumbling onto a sound and going, “Wait… has this been here the whole time?” Posting this exactly as it happened, because those moments are too important to polish away.
