The National Press Foundation's annual journalism awards dinner honored Al Roker of NBC's TODAY and other top journalists on Feb. 15, 2023, at Ritz-Carlton in Washington D.C. The dinner brought together more than 600 journalists, communications professionals, philanthropists and other influencers to celebrate the best in journalism and the First Amendment. This event gives sponsors an opportunity to network with an influential audience and a chance to meet the best journalists in the business. All proceeds go to support journalism training programs, including the Paul Miller Fellowship and the Widening the Pipeline fellowship. Awards presented at the dinner and the winners include: Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism — Al Roker, TODAY, NBC News Chairman’s Citation — Evan Gershkovich, Wall Street Journal Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award — Monica Richardson, McClatchy VP Local News W.M. Kiplinger Distinguished Contributions to Journalism Award — Dorothy Butler Gilliam Feddie Reporting Award — Hannah Dreier of the New York Times The AARP Award for Excellence in Journalism on Aging — Tara Bahrampour of The Washington Post (Large Market) and Dave Altimari and Jenna Carlesso of the Connecticut Mirror (Small Market) Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade — Bloomberg News Staff Clifford K. & James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartoons — Jen Sorensen Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress — The Los Angeles Times reporters Benjamin Oreskes, Kevin Rector, Noah Bierman, Melanie Mason and Cameron Joseph Innovative Storytelling Award — The Washington Post This event underwrites NPF’s mission of training and educating journalists to succeed in an increasingly challenging news environment.
