Suno Such Gup (documentary) 85 minutes Directed by Bani Abidi and Farjad Nabi Produced by Bani Abidi, Farjad Nabi and Kamran Asdar Ali Languages: English and Urdu Suno Such Gup (Listen to Idle Talk) revisits the legendary 1970s Pakistan Television (PTV) shows, "Such Gup" and "Taal Matol" (1972-76). Both were trailblazing comedy programs that revolutionized political and social satire in Pakistan. Through their sharp wit, humorous skits, and bold commentary on bureaucratic inefficiencies, the education system, family values, class differences and domestic politics, these programs made a lasting impact on Pakistani television. The documentary provides a rare and nostalgic reunion of the entire "Such Gup" and "Taal Matol" cast as they reflect on their roles, the creative process, and the show’s deep political undercurrents. The documentary premiered at the Faiz Festival in Lahore in February 2025 and is now available for public viewing, free of charge, on the South Asia Institute’s YouTube channel. This project was partially funded by research funds from The University of Texas at Austin. The producers also wish to thank the Farhad Humayun Foundation in Lahore, as well as Mary Rader (South Asia Librarian and Head of the Fine Arts, Humanities and Global Studies Engagement Team) and the South Asia Institute at UT Austin.
