Our diet programme: (Save for later!!) For the most part, our pupils are 1:1 so can have sensory diet input whenever they need it. But even if you do not have that luxury, it’s important to honour this, before disregulation turns to behaviour and you need them as 1:1 anyway. Afterall, my philosophy is this; if they are disregulated they will not be learning and may even distract the others that are ready- and we all know the donino effect that occurs!! It’s always best to just let them go off and meet their needs. This can look like; ⭐️ crunchy snacks ⭐️ trampoline ⭐️ exercise ball ⭐️ obstacle course ⭐️ nest swing ⭐️ climbing Then, before coming in to sit down, as they’ll still be heightened at this point (this is where others go wrong!) There needs to be two other activities; 1st Organising 2nd Grounding Organising examples; ⭐️ sorting / lining up ⭐️ posting ⭐️ obstacle course (no jumps) ⭐️ puzzle ⭐️ lacing This focuses their mind. Grounding examples; ⭐️ weighted blanket ⭐️ deep pressure squeeze ⭐️ slow push ups ⭐️ breath work ⭐️ humming This grounds their body and slows heart rate. Without the two, they will not be ready to sit down or work. Hope this helps! You can get access to my sensory diet ideas poster for your classroom and visual symbols for every activity via my website. https://loom.ly/lgiJbno I also have three instructional songs to guide you through the three steps of the sensory circuit! https://loom.ly/IqjZT2Q and because I know lots of you will ask, I designed my AAC jumper to raise funds for my class.
