Hemangiomas Strawberry and Cherry Hemangiomas USMLE STEP 1 First Aid 2015 2014, High Yield. Cherry hemangiomas consist of dilated capillaries and postcapillary venules in the papillary dermis. They are bright red in appearance and are roughly 2-5mm in size. Cherry hemangiomas are the most common benign vascular proliferations in adults, increasing as the patient ages and typically found spread over the patient's trunk. Strawberry hemangiomas, also known as superficial infantile hemangiomas, are the most common benign vascular tumors in children, are bright red and sharply demarcated, composed of capillaries separated by connective tissue. It is important to note that strawberry hemangiomas blanch with pressure, appear during the first weeks of the baby's life and grow rapidly for the baby's first 1-2 years. The majority of strawberry hemangiomas spontaneously regress during childhood and have minimal consequence.
