Discographical Information and Research from Brian Rust’s Jazz Records, DAHR, and Colin Hancock. Recordings from the Colin Hancock Collection. By the mid 1930s, swing was the thing in Texas. Several territory big bands and swing combos popped up all over the lone star state, from Dallas to Pecos. Victor’s Bluebird label, eager to cash in on the market of great music, made regular trips to Texas in the mid 1930s, capturing the sounds of legendary ensembles like Boots and His Buddies, the KXYZ Novelty Band, Herman Waldman’s Orchestra and others. This set highlights 18 of the best of these recordings. They’re wonderful, they’re danceable, and they’re the best in the southwest.
