After 18 months of no pregnancy and 4 heartbreaking losses, Alice and Nick were told their next best step was IVF. All their blood tests had come back “normal,” but nothing was working. They were referred to their local hospital specialist and told they might qualify for NHS-funded treatment. From October to December 2023, they did all the checks, but paperwork couldn’t be processed until January 2024, after two full years of trying. They made the tough choice to stop trying naturally, not wanting to “jinx it” or get kicked off the IVF list. In the UK, it all depends on where you live. Some areas offer more rounds, others disqualify you if you fall pregnant and miscarry during the waiting period. Alice says she would have loved to conceive naturally. She even wrote a poem called “Pissing on Sticks” about the rollercoaster of trying.
