In 2017, a new Hong Kong based development studio called NeoBards Entertainment was founded by a bunch of developers with prior experience from companies like Capcom and Square Enix. NeoBards would start out doing some ports for Capcom like the Devil May Cry HD Collection, a new port of Onimusha: Warlords, and the Nintendo Switch ports of a bunch of classic RE titles, but their first full development project would be something totally new. Development would start just after the studio’s founding in 2017, with the idea being that of an asymmetric multiplayer title set in the Resident Evil universe. The concept they came up with was having one player who acts as the mastermind behind the experiments who would control everything through cameras, a slight nod to the fixed camera angles of the original titles, while a group of survivors would try to work together and escape within the time limit similar to the Resident Evil Outbreak games from about a decade prior. They pitched the idea to Capcom executives, and they absolutely loved the concept, leading to Neobards being given the proper licensing for this title and starting its development almost immediately after. It was officially announced to the world as Project Resistance at Tokyo Game Show 2019, and ended up being bundled with the Resident Evil 3 Remake as the director felt that it offered less overall content than the Resident Evil 2 Remake did. You’d think that Capcom bundling this game with a mainline title would lead to a lot of success for the game, and for a time it did perform modestly well, but by the end of its first year, almost the entire playerbase had left and the game was already close to death, and that player count has only continued to dwindle over the years. Over this last week though, I sat down to play Resident Evil: Resistance for the first time to not only learn what this game was really like, but to see if it deserved to be another live service title that struggled to survive past its first few months, or if this was one of those many live service titles that deserved to be given more of a chance than it was. So was Resident Evil: Resistance actually any good? Well, let’s talk about it. Full Resident Evil Series: • Resident Evil Retrospective Resident Evil: Resistance is a 2020 survival horror game developed by NeoBards Entertainment and published by Capcom as the online component for Resident Evil 3. Released for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, it involves four survivor players competing against a mastermind player who can create traps, enemies and other hazards. Resistance is set during the Raccoon City outbreak and features characters from Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil Revelations 2, though it is a non-canon scenario. The game received mixed reviews from critics, who criticized it for being unbalanced, having technical issues and lacking dedicated servers. ✪ CONNECT WITH ME ✪ Subscribe ➤ / @thatcholeguy Membership ➤ / notcoledrakulich Twitch ➤ / choletwo Twitter ➤ / coledrakulich Discord ➤ / discord TikTok ➤ / notcoledrakulich Patreon ➤ / notcole #residentevil #residentevil4 #capcom #residentevil7 #residentevil3 #biohazard #バイオハザード #residentevil5 #residentevil6
