Testing the Emergency procedures at Paddington Station. The first thing I noticed was while riding a crappy stannah lift, the lift suddenly said that it was on fire service and was returning to platform level, (I did not get this on video). A few minuets later while I was at the concourse there was several very muffled announcements (which I also did not film as I didn't yet know what was going on and thought nothing of it). Then a few minuets later there was an "Inspector Sands" message, which is to alert the staff of a possible emergency, (this repeated a few times, so I quickley got out my camera and managed to record it). After this there was a very muffled announcement saying that the alarm would be a test but most people did not hear this. Just after that the evacuation alarm sounded. Lots of people panicked and ran out of the station, and a member of staff shouted "this is a test, there is no need to evacuate". One thing I noticed was... The announcement saying about testing the alarm was so muffled that I reckon only about a third of people heard it. When the alarm sounded only a half of the people decided to leave. This means that in a real emergency, there are several people that will ignore the alarm thinking its not real and remain in the station. http://beno.org.uk
