On this Sunday morning walk in Copacabana, we explore one of the most famous neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro. The walk begins on Avenida Atlântica, where the road is closed to cars on Sundays and public holidays, turning the avenue into a leisure area for locals and visitors. On this particular morning, a running event was taking place, with many athletes wearing numbered shirts racing along the beachfront. From there, we head down to the sand of Copacabana Beach, walking toward the shoreline and observing the strong ocean waves that made the sea unsafe for swimming on that day. After returning to the avenue, the walk continues through Rua Hilário de Gouveia, where we encounter a traditional Sunday street market near Praça Serzedelo Correia. The market fills the area with colorful stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, creating a vibrant display of local life. The walk then passes along Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, one of the neighborhood’s busiest shopping streets, before entering Rua Paula Freitas. Continuing through the neighborhood, the route follows Rua Tonelero, then Rua República do Peru, and the small and quiet Rua Conrado Niemeyer. Along the way we also pass by Empório 76, a great spot for breakfast or brunch, located next to the traditional Peixe Frito Restaurant. The walk continues through smaller residential streets such as Rua Otaviano Hudson and Rua Maracanaú, ending peacefully in Rua Assis Brasil.
