We start our day in Punakha and make our way through snow-covered mountain passes, lush green valleys, and charming villages. Along the way, we stop to stretch our legs at a beautiful waterfall with a prayer bell, where Ridhaan has the time of his life playing in the snow. We also spot wild yaks and visit a small roadside stall selling authentic yak wool jackets, local honey, and the famous Chhurpi (one of the hardest cheeses in the world!). A highlight of our trip is a stop at Willing Waterfall Café—Bhutan’s most stylish highway stop. Sipping on a warm latte while listening to the soothing sounds of the waterfall is an experience like no other! Next, we explore the historic Trongsa Dzong, Bhutan’s largest fortress, which played a key role in the country’s history. Its grand architecture, deep-rooted royal connections, and vibrant Trongsa Tsechu festival make it a must-visit spot. Finally, we arrive at our stay for the next three nights—Hotel Ugyen Ling in Jakar Valley. Located near the historic Wangdichholing Palace, this cozy hotel offers stunning views of Jakar Dzong (White Bird Fortress) and the surrounding mountains. With its traditional Bukhari stoves, gourmet meals, and warm hospitality, this stay was our favorite in Bhutan! This road trip was all about slow travel, soaking in the beauty of Bhutan, and making memories along the way.
