Karimata nu Kuicha - Tsubasa IV

Composed by: Ko Matsushita Arranged by: Tatsuya Kumugai Performers: J2 Ensemble Karimata nu Kuicha, or “Folk Dance of Karimata”, is a composition by Japanese composer Ko Matsushita, based on the island songs of Okinawa Prefecture, namely Yaeyama and Miyako-jima. In performances of these folk songs, it is common for people to sing, swing their arms and dance in jubilation. Originally composed for choral performance, this arrangement for Niibori guitar ensemble taps on the diverse sound range and versatility of Niibori guitars and makes use of the guitar body for percussion. The incorporation of shouting and stamping of feet further adds on to the expressive and energetic nature of the piece.
