The Return of The Key School children in the 1970's will remember this series fondly. Long before Harry Potter, this magical set of books tells the story of of Tim and his adventures with the Hidden People, and as it was part of an educational series, the books got harder to read with each series. Long out of print, and with little sign of a reprint forthcoming, these books brought the joy of reading to a generation. I've been lucky enough to have "copies", which I read to my own children as they grew up. This series sees major plot developments. The Key returns. New characters are introduced. The Stump People make their appearance. The threat level is increased... and for those of you who remember, the word count increases and pictures start to be reduced. There are two ways of enjoying this video. Leave the sound on and let me read the story. Turn the sound off and read it aloud yourself. Note. Throughout the videos, I have pretty much stuck with the original text, except for a few changes where the odd word has been changed to match my reading style. In this video I have made 2 subtle changes. Firstly, I have changed the original "pound note" to a "ten pound note", this waste avoid alienating any younger listeners, who wouldn't have a clue what a pound note was. Secondly, I have removed the bit where Tim empties his pocket and pulls out an old knife. I don't like censorship for censorships sake, however I decided to replace this with a pencil. Given the current state of knife crime, I don't want Tim to be carrying a knife of any kind - even though books of the time would have had all the boys carrying a pen knife of some sort (e.g. Famous Five). The knife plays no further part in this series, so I removed it. Apologies if you disagree with the changes.
