In a Money Mind survey of 508 young adults in Singapore aged 21 to 28, 65% prioritised work-life balance, followed by high wages (62%) and flexible work arrangements (53%). From seeking faster promotions to setting clearer boundaries, Gen Z employees are entering the workforce with different priorities — and not all companies are keeping up. “When you come into a job before you even prove yourself and ask for a pay raise or promotion, that’s what makes it quite scary to hire Gen Zs,” says Shulin Lee, founder and managing director of Aslant Legal. At the same time, expectations around work are shifting. “Everyone wants things faster. Information flows much quicker — so expectations of their own careers are also faster,” says Isaac Tay, VP at ShopBack.
