[2024-4-13] My performance is now available:    • St John Passion: 1. Herr, unser Herrscher ...   I have wanted to transcribe the opening chorus of the St John Passion for piano solo for a long time, but every time I looked at the score while listening to various performances I just thought it wasn't possible. After completing my projects on the Mass in B minor and St Matthew Passion, especially by studying Selmar Bagge's exemplary transcription of the latter, I finally decided to give it a shot yesterday. As usual I try to preserve the counterpoint as much as possible, but this time I have allowed more flexibility instead of adopting a strict literal approach, which would bring more confusion to the score than desirable. Sometimes to preserve the running sixteenth note drive, a choral voice is replaced with an instrumental voice. Due to the simplification, much of the piercing harmony is inevitably lost, especially in the B section. I consider this a first draft, but I have no doubt about the playability.
