The Third Emmanuel Gaillard Debate (26 June 2024) took place between Benjamin Siino and Shane Spelliscy. They challenged each other on “Is the finality of arbitral awards an essential attribute of international arbitration?” Shane Spelliscy is Director General of the Trade Law Bureau of the Government of Canada and Deputy Legal Adviser at Global Affairs Canada and Chairman of the UNCITRAL Working Group III on Investor-State Dispute Settlement Reform. Benjamin Siino is a founding partner of Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes. Professor Diego P. Fernández Arroyo and Marina Matousekova moderated the Debate. In addition to being an outstanding thinker and teacher, Professor Emmanuel Gaillard was also a masterful and fearsome debater.
