ALBANY -- The Compassionate Care Act is on the agenda for the Assembly Health Committee Tuesday morning.Under the Compassionate Care Act, doctors would be able to prescribe medical marijuana, up to 2.5 ounces, and those who acquire the drug would have the option to freely walk around with it.Governor Cuomo proposes a more cautious approach to allowing pot use for treatment in New York.Just last week Cuomo announced he will use an existing state law to allow 20 hospitals to supervise marijuana treatment of patients with specific illnesses.This is the best way to initiate this process and learn about it. We will have control, if we make a mistake, we can fix it, says Governor Cuomo.Meanwhile, a little girl who suffers from a rare genetic seizure disorder is moving to Colorado where marijuana is now legal. Her aunt, who is also a registered nurse in New York says no one should have to leave their home, or their families behind to get special treatment for an illness.Margaret Decker also says Governor Cuomo's proposal is insufficient in gaining access to the right kind of medicine and it's also not going to be enough for the group of patients that need it.The meeting will take place in room 823 of the Legislative Office Building, it will start at 10:00 a.m.
