10-16-1928 NYC - This Song Peaked On US Billboard #8 In 1929 (4 weeks) Columbia - American Records Ben Selvin's Knickerbockers as Broadway Nitelites. Vaughn De Leath (September 26, 1894 - May 28, 1943) was a female singer who gained popularity in the 1920s, earning the sobriquets "The Original Radio Girl" and "First Lady of Radio." Although popular in the 1920s, De Leath is little known today. she had considerable financial difficulties, complicated by a drinking problem which contributed to her early death. Her ashes were buried in her childhood home of Mount Pulaski, Illinois. Lee De Forest invited Vaughn De Leath into his New York studio to sing in 1920. The result may well have been the first live radio singing broadcast. "I Wanna Be Loved by You" is a song written by Herbert Stothart and Harry Ruby, with lyrics by Bert Kalmar, for the 1928 musical "Good Boy". It was chosen as one of the Songs of the Century in a survey made by the RIAA in which 200 people responded (out of 1300 asked). One of Marilyn Monroe's most famous musical performances is her singing it in Billy Wilder's classic farce Some Like It Hot.
