To Build or Buy a home: Wondering if you should build or buy a home? The NAR puts out an annual report each year titled: profiles of home buyers and sellers. This report found that Buyers looking for new construction homes typically are looking -to avoid home improvement projects -as well as having the ability to customize the design of their future home Buyers of previously owned homes are looking for a better price and overall value in a home. The report also found that since 2007 new home purchase have been on the decline. New homes purchased remains low at 15% (in 2003 it was 28%) Now a few other contributing factors for the lack of new construction: Since the market crashed a lot of builders and tradesmen left the industry when work was so hard to come by. Also with the amount of natural disasters, like Harvey, Irma and recently Florence some of those builders have moved to those areas where the demand is high. submitting plans for town approval can still be a challenging process that some don't want to deal with Also there are tariffs in place with Canada where a large portion of US lumber comes from making building materials more expensive. And last but not least taxes on new construction homes are typically more than older homes. But is all comes down to what you really want.
