Protection of Human Rights in Biomedicine – Ethics and Law in Interaction Elisabeth Rynning, Chair of the Swedish Institute for Human Rights, Former Chief Parliamentary Ombudsman, former Justice of the Supreme Administrative Court of Sweden, and former Professor of Medical Law. "It may well be claimed that bioethics in the 21th century faces unprecedented challenges, in the way of complex ethical questions. In addition, it is clear that the protection of human rights in health and biomedicine requires continual interaction between ethics, politics and law, at the international and regional level as well as the domestic, based on multidisciplinary analysis both within and across institutions and boarders. When facing the challenges of the future, we need to reflect on past experiences also of this complex interaction, and the roles of the actors and normative systems involved. In my talk, I will focus on this interaction and some of the developments during the past decades."
