Officer involved Shooting 1900 E. Sprague, Interview with SPD Chief Frank Straub

The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team (SIRR Team) is investigating a shooting involving the Spokane Police Department, which occurred this evening at around 9:00 pm. At approximately 9:00 pm, Spokane Police officers received a 911 call indicating a male was at Truth Ministries in the 1900 block of E. Sprague threatening individuals with a knife. Officers responded within minutes and located the male in the alley behind Truth Ministries. Officers contacted the individual and gave verbal commands for the male to drop the knife he was holding. The individual refused to comply with officer commands. Officers deployed a Taser. The individual did not drop the weapon and moved towards one of the officers. Officers fired shots. Life-saving measures were immediately taken and the individual was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center. • Washington State Patrol is the managing agency in this incident. Future communications regarding this incident will be sent out via the SIRR Team. • The individual involved in the officer involved shooting is hospitalized and expected to survive. • The Spokane Police Department will release the names of the officers involved in this incident. • Once the SIRR Team investigation is complete the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review.
