Istanbul LIVE: View Outside Istanbul's Municipality Building After Mayor Imamoglu's Detention | CNBC TV18 Violent clashes erupted across several cities in Turkey between opposition supporters and state security forces for a second day, as demonstrators demand the release of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, according to videos and reports from Turkish media outlets. Police in capital city Ankara and Istanbul fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse protesters gathering, social media videos and local media outlets in Turkey showed. President Tayyip Erdogan warned on Friday that Turkey would not tolerate street violence or public disruptions after the detention of Istanbul's mayor Ekrem Imamoglu prompted some of the biggest shows of civil disobedience in more than a decade. "We will not accept the disruption of public order. Just as we have never yielded to street terrorism, we will not surrender to vandalism," Erdogan, 71, told an audience in the capital Ankara. The warning came after thousands of people protested for two days in Istanbul, Ankara and other cities, including at university campuses, leading to some clashes. Police used water cannon to disperse some crowds and have closed down streets. More demonstrations are planned later on Friday and tensions could rise at the weekend when a court is expected to rule to formally arrest Imamoglu, Erdogan's main political rival who leads him in some opinion polls. ISTANBUL, TURKEY - Live from outside Istanbul’s municipality building, after Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, President Tayyip Erdogan’s biggest political rival, was detained in the early hours of Wednesday. Live mixed feed outside Istanbul’s City Hall and outside a police station where the Istanbul mayor is believed to be held after he was arrested by Turkish police on Wednesday. The mayor - a key rival of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan - was arrested as part of an investigation into alleged corruption and terror links. The state-run Anadolu Agency said prosecutors issued warrants for some 100 other people. Authorities closed several roads around Istanbul and banned demonstrations in the city for four days in an apparent effort to prevent protests following the arrest. The arrest followed a search of Ekrem Imamoglu’s home, a day after a university invalidated his diploma, effectively disqualifying the popular opposition figure from running in the next presidential race. Having a university degree is a requisite for running in elections under Turkish law. #istanbul #turkeyNEWS #ekremimamoğlu #erdoğan #cnbctv18 #worldnews
